Water
Safety
We take water safety very seriously, and
educate our visitors about the hidden
dangers in our waterways and lakes,
including Cold Water Shock.

With the British summer temperatures rising each year, please stay safe in the summer and do not enter the water no matter how inviting it looks on a hot sunny day.

Our volunteer guides talk about Drowning Prevention, explaining to visitors about the hidden dangers that are beneath the surface, such as dumped bicycles or shopping trollies, or plants and deep silt. All of which can get someone into difficulty and can lead to drowning. They also educate about experiencing Cold Water Shock which is when the water temperature is far colder than the air temperature.
If you do unintentionally get into trouble whilst in the water, please stay calm, float on your back, and call for help. If you see someone in trouble in the water, please call 999.
