Each new academic year brings with it an excellent opportunity to open up conversations about safety with children. Crossing roads, online safety, the dangers of open water and fires are just some of the potential risks children need to be aware of. However, it is equally important for them to know what to do if they are in challenging situations and who they can turn to.

Whether you have a topic relating to safety, want to cover essential parts of your PSHE curriculum, or feel your students would benefit overall, we are the place to visit.

As seen in the summer edition of the School Travel Organiser, our amazing immersive education centre centre covers 11 vital safety topics. These topics equip your pupils with the knowledge to empower them to make safer choices as they venture out into the world around them.

As a Learning Outside the Classroom Quality Badge holder, we not only have quality education outside the classroom but we also help to reduce your paperwork, making it easier to take your pupils off-site. Therefore, visiting us will not only make covering essential safety and PSHE topics easier, it will also be a fun and educational experience for all. The best part is, children get to experience this learning in a realistic and immersive environment.

Schools can visit us for half a day or take their learning to a whole new level by choosing a whole day. These visits have an additional online safety classroom session.

Tours are lead by our dedicated volunteer tour guides who teach children the life-saving education we are known for. Our online safety sessions are age appropriate and taught in our new classroom by a member of our education team.

Taught by our incredible education team, we cover a variety of essential safety topics that your students can access in the classroom. From our very popular online safety session, designed for all age groups, we also cover age specific topics. These sessions include emergency services, early knife crime intervention, gas safety and drug and alcohol safety. All sessions are taught in an age appropriate, engaging way, creating safe spaces for vital conversations that could save a student’s life.

The Safety Centre Charity Is Here For Your Life Saving Learning

The Safety Centre Charity was thrilled to educate over 14,000 children, young people and adults with life-saving learning since reopening after the pandemic. The charity based in Kiln Farm, Milton Keynes is the regions leading safety education charity. The Safety Centre education team are ready and excited to welcome students and visitors to their education centre Hazard Alley for the next academic year!

New Early Intervention Knife Crime Education Programme & Scenario

Last year the Safety Centre launched their new choices and consequences education scenario. This new scenario has children focus on their choices and the consequences of these choices in relation to littering, graffiti and knife crime, funded by Safer MK and MK Development Partnership. This alongside the brand new Choices and Consequences: Early Knife Crime Intervention classroom session, available for primary school children in year five and six, has been a really well received addition to our already life-saving curriculum.

We encourage schools to book our sessions early, so speak to our education team on 01908 263009 to book your year five and six students in school sessions for next academic year.

Fantastic End Of Year Results!

Last academic year the Safety Centre Charity taught over 14,000 children, young people and adults life-saving education. This has either been through tours at our education centre, sessions in schools as part of our outreach programme or first aid and fire marshal training, which is available for both schools and companies to book.

The Safety Centre would like to say a big ‘Thank You!’ to the Milton Keynes Development Partnership (MKDP), for their generous grant of £9,800 towards the completion of our new scenario.

This funding, in addition to the support we have received from other organisations, has provided us with the ability to create an engaging scenario that is full of impact.

The new scenario will support the vital educational programme we are creating around knife crime. As a result, it will enable children to develop knowledge, skills and build their resilience. It will help them to make the right choices and enjoy their childhood safely.

As a safety education charity, we understand the importance of educating children about the risks they face today, which is why we are so grateful to all who have been involved in the development of our new scenario. We would not have been able to achieve this without you.

Safety Centre, Hazard Alley are very excited to announce that we will be introducing a brand new learning zone into our wonderful interactive village!

The new scenario has been partially funded by MK Council and the Safer MK partnership, and will resemble a community shopping court. It will focus on educating children about the risks and consequences related to knife crime, which has become an increasing concern in many areas in and around Milton Keynes.

We are very proud to be at the forefront of implementing a new learning resource that will benefit children for years to come.

In order to make space for the new scenario, we did need to make some changes in the village. Therefore, after many years of educating thousands of children about the dangers of petrol and car air pumps, the Hazard Alley BP station has taken its final bow as the 7^th scenario in our amazing tour.

We would like to say a huge ‘Thank You’ to everyone who was involved in the removal, as it was not an easy task. However, it was wonderful to discover that behind the main scenario were some of the garage’s previous designs. It provided us with a much needed trip down memory lane.

While we are sad to see it go, we are very excited for the upcoming launch of what will take its place. It certainly has big shoes to fill!

I am thrilled to have joined the Safety Centre charity and I look forward to building on the success of Jo Green, the previous Director.

The work of the Safety Centre is far reaching and invaluable, which resonates with my passion for making a positive difference to the lives of others. As a mum I champion the importance of children experiencing safety education in such an interactive and immersive way.

I’ve worked in the charity sector for over 20 years, having gained my experience at international, national and regional charities. My experience spans areas of leadership, operational management, generating revenue, developing strategic partnerships, growing services and managing staff & volunteer teams.

In all the roles I’ve held I have had the pleasure of working with volunteers. In fact, being a volunteer myself whilst I was at University over 24 years ago is what triggered my passion for the charity sector. As a sector we couldn’t operate without the support and generosity of our volunteer network, and I’d like to acknowledge the invaluable support of the Safety Centre charity volunteers.

A special thank you to everyone who has supported our work in ensuring we are providing the absolute best safety education in an interactive and memorable way to young people across our communities.

I look forward to working with the wider community and ensuring we continue this vital work.

It’s Volunteers’ Week 2020 – an opportunity for us to pay tribute to our fantastic team of volunteers.

Thank you to all of our volunteers for all the time, energy and enthusiasm you bring helping our young visitors learn how to keep themselves safe. Guiding children around Hazard Alley and helping them to practice making emergency 999 calls creates an engaging and memorable learning experience. Teaching children the knowledge, skills and attitudes they need is ever more critical in the current pandemic but sadly something we can’t do at Kiln Farm right now.

We miss you terribly during lock down but the Virtual Volunteer Cuppa on a Friday morning is a high spot in our week. We’re also well impressed with your determination to keep in touch and your willingness to embrace video conferencing in order to stay in touch remotely. You are keeping us all young and inspired to rebuild once this is all over.

We can’t wait until we can welcome you back to the centre all in your green tops and with your big smiles, ready to put into practice all the brilliant suggestions to make visits possible again from our recent zoom call. In Volunteers’ Week and every week, let’s keep our community going, the laughs comings, and the conversation going until we can meet again in person.

Saturday February 22nd seems such an age ago now!

Six teams of swimmers met at Wovlerton Pool to swim in the annual Rotary Club of Milton Keynes Swimathon event. 36 swimmers were sponsored to swim lengths of the pool in relay for 55 minutes to raise money for Hazard Alley. Our efforts resulted in a donation of £7000.Well needed funds at the present time when we can’t host visits to the centre or run H&S training courses.

A massive thank you to all of our volunteers, friends, trustees and staff who swam and supported the teams on the day. Thanks as well to the Rotary Club for organising this annual fundraiser for local charities.
