    The Safety Centre would like to say a big ‘Thank You!’ to the Milton Keynes Development Partnership (MKDP), for their generous grant of £9,800 towards the completion of our new scenario.

    This funding, in addition to the support we have received from other organisations, has provided us with the ability to create an engaging scenario that is full of impact.

    The new scenario will support the vital educational programme we are creating around knife crime. As a result, it will enable children to develop knowledge, skills and build their resilience. It will help them to make the right choices and enjoy their childhood safely.

    As a safety education charity, we understand the importance of educating children about the risks they face today, which is why we are so grateful to all who have been involved in the development of our new scenario. We would not have been able to achieve this without you.

    Hazard Alley, on behalf of Parentzone, is running a brand new quiz that explores all of the brilliant and different things that families enjoy doing online.

    When it comes to families, we know that this can mean a lot of different people: aunts, parents, carers, siblings, the list can go on. However, what will unite every family is their use of technology, so it is important to start thinking about our relationship with it. Especially since our use of technology has increased due to current restrictions that tell us to stay at home.

    All you will need to take part in this quiz is a pen, some paper and a place where your family can come together. This could be at your dining table or on the comfy sofas you have in your living room.

    Please come and join us for an hour filled with interesting questions and engaging interaction, all to test your knowledge about the digital world. There will be three rounds of questions. Some might be more challenging than others, but they may help to inspire new ideas for family conversations about tech, and what can be achieved together online and offline.

    We are looking for an influential and inspirational Chief Executive to lead the Safety Centre, best known as Hazard Alley, from the early Autumn.

    After 25 years of safety education to over 500,000 children, there is great local awareness of, and affection for, Hazard Alley. Around 14,000 young people usually visit the centre each year, a further 2500 taught out in schools, around 650 people are trained in first aid and we generate an annual revenue in excess of £250k. We won two business awards in 2020.

    The CEO must lead and manage all aspects of the charity working with Trustees to develop long-term strategic direction and a three-year business plan to develop new and financially sustainable ways of providing safety education, building on the grant funding and business support we already enjoy. The Centre has 6 staff plus about 40 volunteers.

    It’s Volunteers’ Week 2020 – an opportunity for us to pay tribute to our fantastic team of volunteers.

    Thank you to all of our volunteers for all the time, energy and enthusiasm you bring helping our young visitors learn how to keep themselves safe. Guiding children around Hazard Alley and helping them to practice making emergency 999 calls creates an engaging and memorable learning experience. Teaching children the knowledge, skills and attitudes they need is ever more critical in the current pandemic but sadly something we can’t do at Kiln Farm right now.

    We miss you terribly during lock down but the Virtual Volunteer Cuppa on a Friday morning is a high spot in our week. We’re also well impressed with your determination to keep in touch and your willingness to embrace video conferencing in order to stay in touch remotely.  You are keeping us all young and inspired to rebuild once this is all over.

    We can’t wait until we can welcome you back to the centre all in your green tops and with your big smiles, ready to put into practice all the brilliant suggestions to make visits possible again from our recent zoom call. In Volunteers’ Week and every week, let’s keep our community going, the laughs comings,  and the conversation going until we can meet again in person.
