We’re Thrilled To Announce George Anson As Patron At The Safety Centre-Supporting Our Work To Keep Our Communities Safe

We’re excited to introduce our Patron, George Anson, at a key time for the Safety Centre as we expand our essential safety education work across the region and beyond. George will help support the development of our charity as we move into our 30th year of operation, helping save lives through learning for children, young people and adults. During his time as High Sheriff of Buckinghamshire between 2021 and 2022 George campaigned to educate people on the risks they face online and how they can make themselves safer. His focus for his shrivel year was highlighting the impact of cyber-crime on the population. These interests align perfectly with the aims of the Safety Centre.

    George said

In our ever-changing and increasingly complex world, how to be “safe” has never been more important to our children and young people. For nearly 30 years, the Safety Centre has been delivering this message effectively to that next generation. My role is to see that the Safety Centre continues to grow, prosper, and reach the widest audience possible. The only thing holding back the Safety Centre’s ambitions is funding. Everyone can help, whether you are an individual, organisation or business, by giving generously to make our world safer for the future.

    Safety Centre Patron George Anson

Maya Chief Executive at the Safety Centre said

I’m delighted to announce George Anson as our new Patron. He will be our first Patron here at the Safety Centre and joins us at a pivotal, exciting time for our organisation as we grow and develop our safety education programmes and relationships across the region to deliver lifesaving learning. George’s time as High Sheriff highlighted his passion for helping people stay safe online and this aligns directly with our goal to educate children, young people and adults about how to keep safe. With a shared commitment to empowering our communities to stay safe, I look forward to working with George to ensure even more people are benefitting from our vital education programmes.

Since opening in 1994, the Safety Centre Charity has welcomed organisations and businesses in to use the interactive education centre and meeting rooms for their events, conferences, team building days and meetings. Its unique spaces make it a great venue to host a variety of events. The world’s your oyster!

What Can I Use The Safety Centre For?

You can hire the centre with it’s safety scenarios, an individual meeting room, our conference suite or the whole venue!

The realistic safety scenarios, complete with flashing lights, sounds and smells make the centre the perfect location for filming, networking, simulation training and so much more.

You also have access to our conference room and classrooms. this means you have an additional three break out rooms for any activities you would like to run separately. For instance, a business could run their own team building day using our centre’s scenarios and use our conference room to conduct staff meetings. One place, multiple uses, what’s not to like?

We’re here to discuss any other ideas you have in mind. Just give us a call on 01908 263009 or email bookings@safetycentre.co.uk.

    Networking

Looking for an interesting alternative space for networking? Our centre holds 80 people and our scenarios can be used as mini break-out rooms for discussions and activities. Collaborate MK recently hosted their monthly networking event and had very positive feedback.

Tim Lee from Collaborate MK said

It was a pleasure to hold our monthly Collaborate MK event at the Safety Centre, we were treated to an excellent Fire Safety Display along with great interactive networking breakout sessions within the room sets and locations and look forward to returning next year.

    Simulation Training

It can be challenging to find a space that is both realistic and safe at the same time, Fortunately, the Safety centre is both and was the perfect venue for the paramedic students from Oxford Brookes University to practise simulations of major incidents. Students and staff thoroughly enjoyed the two weeks they spent with us and couldn’t be happier with the skills they developed as a result.

Matthew Catterall, Principle Lecturer & Programme Lead – Paramedic Science at Oxford Brookes University said

It’s been fantastic this week, our students love the centre. It makes it so real for them and the immersive scenarios help them to practise their skills safely in really lifelike conditions. This also helps them with their non-technical skills like liaising with other medical teams and communicating with patients.

    Paramedic student, Joshua said

It was an amazing experience, it gave us a great opportunity to practice paramedic skills in a controlled but life-like environment!

The centre also proved to be a big hit with PotterPaws, who used the scenarios for scent detection training. The centre really can be used for anything!

    How Much Does It Cost?

The cost of hiring the centre varies depending on the duration of time you would be spending with us.

Half day hire of the centre costs £500 + VAT and full day hire costs £950 + VAT.

Whatever you’re looking for you can find it here at The Safety Centre. If you’re still not sure, come and visit us to see the spaces for yourself! Call us on 01908 263009 or email bookings@safetycentre.co.uk to arrange a viewing today.

Introducing Our Chair Of Trustees Catriona Morris

As we head into 2023 we’re highlighting the work of our amazing trustees who support our charity the Safety Centre, the world’s first and the region’s leading safety education charity. Catriona Morris is our Chair of Trustees. In her role Catriona leads the Board of Trustees and supports the running of the Safety Centre Charity. Catriona joined the board in 2017 after being introduced to our organisation through her role as a Milton Keynes councillor for Linford South and latterly Broughton Ward, when she was a member of the Buckinghamshire & Milton Keynes Fire Authority. She was also the Mayor of Milton Keynes in 2012. When she’s not at the Safety Centre Catriona is a magistrate and sits on the Buckinghamshire bench. She lives in Milton Keynes with her family.

    Catriona shared:

When I was on the Fire Authority I learnt all about the Safety Centre and saw the value of early intervention education and I was enthused by that. I’m a parent to two children and wanted to do everything possible to give young people the tools to keep themselves safe. It’s vital that every child has the opportunity to learn lifesaving safety education and I wanted to be part of the organisation delivering it.

I love coming into the centre and hearing the excited voices in the building with children clearly learning by osmosis. Knowing that we’re teaching such valuable information that’s in depth and varied that supports the school curriculum and the ever-changing environments our young people live in is wonderful. For example, the recently developed knife crime choices and consequences education initiative. It’s great to be part of an organisation that’s ready and has the expertise to create education programmes and support children, young people and adults when new and emerging safety issues come up. Such as when the building site scenario was closed as safety around building sites improved across the country. We’re now moving onto the upcoming new scenario which will be launched next year around road safety when there are roadworks taking place, which we’re seeing a lot as our towns and cities grow.  When we hear tragic news stories about children and young people having accidents on our roads it highlights how important our work is to teach children how to cross the road safely. This education is fundamental to society and everyone has something to learn when they visit the Safety Centre or use our outreach programmes, whatever their age we can help. We are the solution here. When the community has a problem they come to the Safety Centre for support. That’s why our amazing education teams, volunteers and partnerships are key, as they enable us to keep on top of pressing safety issues our wider communities face.

It’s important that we keep spreading the word about our work and role within the local community and wider region. Everyone who has been to the Safety Centre talks about it and it is now our role to reach out to people who haven’t heard about our work to see how we can support their needs. From school teachers, to Scout leaders, businesses and organisations we have safety education for everyone. Unfortunately, our work arises from tragedy as we develop scenarios to meet the needs of society. We continue to adapt and develop our offering as situations develop and will always be here for our communities.

Merry Christmas from all of us here at the Safety Centre. We hope that you have a wonderful festive period and a happy and safe new year.

This year has been full of action for the whole Safety Centre team, from increased visitor numbers at our education centre Hazard Alley to new projects. We’ve been thrilled to welcome students from across the region to our education centre as schools get back out for school trips and were so pleased to be featured in the winter edition of the School Travel Organiser Magazine. We also welcomed Dr Stuart Lawrence to the centre in November to talk about the importance of our knife crime education work and how we can save lives through education.

    Stuart Lawrence Safety Centre

Our education team have been busy delivering early intervention knife crime education to 1,500 students across Milton Keynes this December during the month of action whilst the Knife Angel is in the city. This exciting project will continue in the new year as our education teams travel onto Slough to deliver education to 1,950 children.

Safety Centre Knife Crime Education Pledge

In December we’ve celebrated all things Christmas, thanking our volunteers for their amazing work, with our volunteer Christmas party. As well as our Christmas staff day out wreath making. We made the centre Christmas ready and had a visit from cheeky elves, who needed lots of safety education!

    Safety Centre Volunteers Christmas Party

Thank you to everyone who has supported our work, helping make communities across our region safer through lifesaving learning. It’s never too late to learn something new and keep yourself, your friends and family and community safe. We’re here to help support you every step of the way. You can reach us at bookings@safetycentre.co.uk. Our offices will be closed for the Christmas break from 4.30pm on Wednesday 21st December and will reopen at 8.30am on Tuesday 3rd January 2023.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from all of us at the Safety Centre.

    Merry Christmas Safety Centre Charity

White Ribbon Charity – Working To End Men’s Violence Against Women

White Ribbon is a global campaign that encourages people, especially men and boys to individually and collectively take action and change the behaviour and culture that leads to abuse and violence. To wear a white ribbon is to promise to never commit, excuse or remain silent about male violence against women.

White Ribbon UK is part of the global White Ribbon movement to end men’s violence against women and is the leading charity that is ending men’s violence against women by engaging with men and boys to make a stand against violence. White Ribbon works with individuals, organisations, and policy makers towards wholesale culture change to prevent violence before it starts.

Anthea Sully, Chief Executive of White Ribbon UK said

White Ribbon Accredited organisations are able to make a real difference towards ending violence against women by promoting a culture of respect and equality, among their staff and wider communities. By raising awareness among employees, people can learn how to become allies and call out violent and abuse behaviour when they see it, at work and in the wider community. We are delighted to welcome The Safety Centre Charity as one of our White Ribbon Accredited organisations and are looking forward to working with them towards ending violence against women once and for all.

December marks the arrival of the Knife Angel in Milton Keynes, created from 100,000 weapons seized by the police across the UK. During the month the Safety Centre will deliver life saving safety education to 1,500 Milton Keynes primary school students between 9-11 years old. Sessions focus on the dangers of carrying a knife, the life changing consequences of carrying and using a knife, the law around carrying a weapon or witnessing a knife attack and how to protect yourself, your future, your community and everyone around you.

Knife Angel Milton Keynes Safety Centre

    Knife Crime Safety Education Programme

Our Choices and Consequences Knife Crime sessions are being delivered out into schools across the city of Milton Keynes as well as to students at the DONS Stadium, where the Knife Angel is situated between 1 December-8 January 2023. The sculpture created by the British Ironworks is positioned outside gate 1 at Stadium MK and at 27 foot high is a focal point of the Bletchley stadium precinct this December.

Today we delivered our first knife crime education sessions into schools in MK and students wrote messages of hope to be displayed at the Knife Angel all December.

    Messages of Hope Safety Centre

The Knife Angel Arrives in MK

Welcomed into Milton Keynes by a police bikes and horse escort with police horses Loki and Victor, the statue arrived on a foggy Thursday afternoon. Our education team and CEO joined our partners Thames Valley Police, MK City Council, MK DONS SET and the press to talk about the importance of our life saving education, being delivered this December and beyond to primary and secondary students across our region.

Maya Joseph-Hussain Chief Executive of the Safety Centre said

“We’re here today to talk about the lifesaving learning programme we’re delivering, challenging misconceptions around knife crime and highlighting the life changing consequences it can have. I was humbled to meet and speak with Jason Fathers, father of Jay who tragically died as a result of a knife attack in 2o21. We spoke about the importance of knife crime education for young people across the country and the devastating impact of knife crime on families and communities. Our education programme delivered by our expert team, approaches the challenging topic of knife crime in an age appropriate, sensitive way. We will be delivering sessions across the month of action in December and across schools in Slough when the angel moves on in January.”

Have Firework Safety In Mind This Bonfire Night Weekend!

Fireworks are fantastic to watch. The bright colours that light up the dark sky make it a truly wonderful spectacle.

While it is safer to go to displays that have been officially organised, as these have all the safety measure put in place, we can understand the appeal of wanting your own personal firework display at home. However, with all the fun and excitement taking place we don’t always think about whether we are being or staying safe. That is why this weekend we want you to keep firework safety in mind.

Whether you are building a bonfire or getting ready to host your own firework display, we have some great top tips to help make sure you are able to #celebratesafely

Remember, Remember Your Firework Safety 101

Bonfires and fireworks can be dangerous, especially when they are not handled with care. Before setting up your display ask yourself:

Where You Are Planning To Set Up?

Take a look at the area you are considering to use. Are there any nearby fences, sheds or hedges that could be caught by the flames of a bonfire or a misdirected firework? Is the space large enough so that people watching and animals are out of harms way? Is there an area where you can keep water should you need it at any point during the night? Will the clothes you will be wearing be loose fitting?

Asking yourself these questions will make you aware of any potential fire hazards or accidents that could occur. The last thing you want to do on a joyous Bonfire Night is call out the fire service or take a trip to A&E.

    Will You Be Using Sparklers?

Sparklers are a great way for children to get involved with the celebrations. The bright spark can almost make it appear as though you are creating art when you move it through the air. At the same time however, they come with their own risks, which we always need to have in mind. They might not appear to, but sparklers can get very hot, which can cause serious burns when they are not handled with properly.

Make sure to supervise children at all times and keep a bucket of water nearby so that children can put their sparkler in once they are finished with it. It is also very important that sparklers are never given to children under the age of 5.

    Fireworks Safety Expert or Newbie

Whether you have handled fireworks for many years or are doing it for the first time, it is important to make sure you read the instructions that come with them. Each type of firework will come with their own instructions so read them all as they could be different. Make sure you know what the safe distance to light a firework is and never return to a firework once lit, even if it is not working. It is also important to remember that fireworks need to be directed away from spectators and while you may already know this, you must make sure the area you are using gives you the space to do this.

If you are having a bonfire, make sure there is one person always looking after it. Just like a lit candle, you must never leave it unattended. It is also important you don’t use things like paraffin or petrol to start the fire as they are very dangerous and highly flammable.  Fires created with these can get out of hand and spread very quickly as they are powerful accelerants.

    What Should You Do Afterwards?

Once all the celebrations have finished, you will then need to know how to dispose of your fireworks and how to out put out your bonfire.

You may think that it is fine to put fireworks in the bin once they have been used. However, it is important to remember that fireworks may still be hot and could cause a fire. Make sure at the end of the night all fireworks, including those that didn’t work are cooled in water for a couple of hours before you bag them up and put them in the bin.

If you are having a bonfire, make sure you put it out completely by pouring cold water all over it. Never leave it to go out by itself unattended.

Whatever you are planning on doing this weekend, we hope you all celebrate safely.

The funding will help our brilliant education team to reach out to schools across Buckinghamshire and provide children with essential safety education around the complex topic of knife crime.

    Early Intervention Knife Crime Awareness

Tragically, recent news has highlighted the need for children to receive specialist education around the challenging topic of knife crime. The choice to carry a knife has life changing consequences that need to be highlighted, explored and explained in an age appropriate, sensitive way. Out highly qualified education team creates safe spaces for open conversations about a topic that can be very difficult to talk about.

Our session, which has been delivered across schools has received high praise for the way it addresses such a sensitive subject. Children are empowered by the session, giving them the confidence to make safe, positive decisions. They also feel reassured, knowing they have a support network they can reach out to if they need help.

Our mission at The Safety Centre Charity is for all children, young people and adults to have access to interactive, immersive and memorable safety education and training, enabling safe and flourishing communities. We are delighted that we are able to extend our reach further into Buckinghamshire through the help of this funding.

Sarah Surridge, Marketing Manager at the Safety Centre said

‘We’re thrilled to have received funding from The Heart of Bucks Community Foundation, enabling our education team to deliver life-saving early intervention knife crime education across Buckinghamshire. These sessions help young people make safe choices for themselves, their families and the communities they are living and growing up in. Having safe spaces to talk about these life changing decisions is essential as we support our communities to thrive through essential life-saving education.’

Funding Received From Heart Of Bucks

We are very grateful for the incredible support given by the Heart of Bucks Community Foundation.

The Heart of Bucks Community Foundation ensures their funds support individuals and organisations who will positively impact those in need across its county. Since it began in 2000, it has awarded over £10 million pounds to local causes.

Henry Allmand, CEO of the Heart Of Bucks Community Foundation said

‘We are delighted to fund the Safety Centre and the important work they are doing. The Knife Crime Early Intervention Sessions will protect our communities now and in the future. Together with Buckinghamshire Council, we are committed to providing vital funding towards community safety projects such as this, transforming Buckinghamshire for the better.’

Family Tours At The Safety Centre

Just like our school visits, you will be guided around each of our safety scenarios by one of our friendly volunteer guides. You will learn about the risks and potential dangers we face in every day life and the things you can do to keep yourself and your friends, family and community safe.

From understanding the importance of smoke detectors and keeping your personal information safe to learning how to cross the road safely and how fast a train can travel, there will be lots for you to discover.

Children will also get the incredible opportunity to make a practise 999. During this call they will need to remember what emergency service their require, where the accident has taken place and what has happened. An amazing skill that could save a life in a real emergency.

Is there any better place to visit during half term?

Company Hires Safety Centre For Scent Detection Training

The Safety Centre welcomed a different kind of visitor last night when PotterPaws hired the centre to run one of their scent detection trials.

Our immersive centre provided a great space for these highly intelligent dogs to practise their incredible sniffing skills in a realistic and safe environment. Whilst scents were being hidden all around our life-like scenarios, owners and their furry companions were able to relax in our briefing room, waiting for the moment they would be called to find the hidden scent. There was also the option for their four legged friends to be outside to spend some quality time on the grass by our centre.

This type of training provides owners and their dogs with happy and positive emotions. Therefore, it comes as no surprise that there were plenty of wagging tails full of anticipation and excitement….from the dogs, of course.

Overall, the evening was a huge success with everyone leaving satisfied, including staff 🙂

We pride ourselves on offering opportunities for interactive education experiences for all. When it comes to the centre, the possibilities are endless and are only limited by your imagination.

Why not get in touch and see what we could do for you?

Welcome To A New Academic Year, Let’s Talk About Safety Education!

Each new academic year brings with it an excellent opportunity to open up conversations about safety with children. Crossing roads, online safety, the dangers of open water and fires are just some of the potential risks children need to be aware of.  However, it is equally important for them to know what to do if they are in challenging situations and who they can turn to.

Whether you have a topic relating to safety, want to cover essential parts of your PSHE curriculum, or feel your students would benefit overall, we are the place to visit.

As seen in the summer edition of the School Travel Organiser, our amazing immersive education centre centre covers 11 vital safety topics. These topics equip your pupils with the knowledge to empower them to make safer choices as they venture out into the world around them.

    Book Your Visit

As a Learning Outside the Classroom Quality Badge holder, we not only have quality education outside the classroom but we also help to reduce your paperwork, making it easier to take your pupils off-site. Therefore, visiting us will not only make covering essential safety and PSHE topics easier,  it will also be a fun and educational experience for all. The best part is, children get to experience this learning in a realistic and immersive environment.

Schools can visit us for half a day or take their learning to a whole new level by choosing a whole day. These visits have an additional online safety classroom session.

Tours are lead by our dedicated volunteer tour guides who teach children the life-saving education we are known for. Our online safety sessions are age appropriate and taught in our new classroom by a member of our education team.

As the world’s first and region’s leading safety education charity there’s nowhere better for your next trip!

All content is created and taught by our education team so all you have to do is book a date to visit us. You can do this by clicking here and filling out one of our booking forms.

We teach safety education so you don’t have to.

    In School Safety Sessions Available

Already booked your school outings for this year? Why not book one of our In-School Safety Sessions and have us come out to you.

Taught by our incredible education team, we cover a variety of essential safety topics that your students can access in the classroom. From our very popular online safety session, designed for all age groups, we also cover age specific topics. These sessions include emergency services, early knife crime intervention, gas safety and drug and alcohol safety. All sessions are taught in an age appropriate, engaging way, creating safe spaces for vital conversations that could save a student’s life.

    Back To School Safety

We’re talking about back to school safety this week, as children and families prepare to go back to school.

Whether you are starting somewhere new or returning for another year, our top safety tips and advice are there to help support you as you kick start the new academic year.

    Walking To School

Our roads may be safer than they were a few years ago, but it doesn’t change how important it is to learn about road safety, especially when we are walking to school for the first time by ourselves.

The latest changes to the Highway Code make pedestrians a priority at crossings, including junctions, before cyclists, horse riders and cars. However, as we always say at the Safety Centre, even if we are being safe, it does not mean that everyone around us is being safe. Accidents can still happen, and according to RoSPA, 39 fatal accidents on the road in 2019 were children aged 15 and under.

So, if you are planning to walk to school make sure to:

    Plan Your Route To School

Planning your route is a great way of finding the quickest and safest way to school. You can locate where the road crossings are, as well as avoid the places that you shouldn’t cross. Once you have planned your route, we also recommend that you practise it with a parent or carer. This can help you feel more confident and avoid making unsafe decisions.

Look For Multiple Ways To Get To School

Sometimes, the route we would normally take might be cut off due to road repairs or even accidents. In cases such as this, we would have to find an alternative path to get to school. Unexpected events like this can cause us to feel worried or stressed, which may lead to us making unsafe decisions. By practising multiple routes, you will always have another option.

    Stay Bright, Stay Seen

Wearing bright clothing makes it easier for all road users to see you, especially when you are walking home after school. Whilst school uniforms are usually dark in colour, there are other bright things we could wear, such as a coat or bag.  You can add bright accessories, such as a reflective keyring or strap to your bag. It might not seem like much, but this can make all the difference.

    Be Free From Distractions

In order to cross the road safely, we need to use our eyes and ears. If we are too busy looking at our phones or listening to music, we may miss oncoming danger. Stay free from distractions and get to school safely.

Safety Centre Hazard Alley Road Safety

    Create a Hand…..A Helping Hand

There can be times when you feel sad, worried or stressed about things that are happening at home or school. In times such as these it is important to tell someone.

At the Safety Centre, we call this the Helping Hand. Your thumb represents yourself, as there are times when we can fix the problem. However, if it is something we need help with, each finger on our hand represents a group of adults you could turn to.

Why not take the time to think about who you would include on your hand? If you aren’t too sure, why not check out some our examples below to help give you an idea.

    Index Finger

The index finger represents adults you would find at home. This could be your mum, dad or carer. You might even live with an adult brother or sister.

    Middle Finger

The middle finger refers to people in our wider family, such as our grandparents, uncles and aunties. This can also include any adult cousins that you are close to.

    Ring Finger

Your ring finger finger includes any adult you feel you can trust at school. It could be a teacher, teaching assistant, headteacher or lunchtime supervisor.

    Little Finger

The last, but certainly not least, little finger represents any other adults that you know. It could be your friend’s parents, a neighbour or activity leader.

If you are not able to reach anyone face to face, Childline is there online or on the phone, all day, everyday.

Remember, there is nothing so awful that you cannot talk to someone about it. If you feel that you are not being heard, keep trying until someone listens to you.

    The Power Of Saying No

No might seem like an easy word to say but we don’t always feel like we can, especially when it comes to our friends.

Friendships are really important to us and it is only natural that we want to fit in, but it is also important to recognise when this might lead to unsafe choices and negative consequences.

We may not realise it but our friends can influence us, shaping the way we behave and make decisions. Changing the way we think, feel or act in order to fit in with or make a person or group of people happy is known as peer pressure. This isn’t always bad as they could help to change your view of a situation to make it more positive, but there are occasions when it can be.

When we are in situations where friends are encouraging us to do something that makes us uncomfortable or that we know is wrong, it can be difficult to know what to do. Especially if the rest of your friends are doing it. You may feel worried that by not joining in you might loose your friends or be the target for bullying. These feelings are very common, but there are steps you can take to help you. Remember, it is never ok to fit in with people at the expense of harming yourself or others.

Think! Is The Choice I’m About To Make Right Or Wrong?

There will be times when this is more obvious than others, but that won’t make it any less difficult. Our bodies are often very helpful in these situations with sending out early warning signs, such as an increased heart beat, shaking and feeling sick. These appear when we are scared or nervous and are there to tell us that the situation we are in might not be safe.

We can also ask ourselves how this choice will affect:

    • Ourselves
    • Our future
    • Our family
    • The people around us
    • Our community

If any of the above would be affected in a negative way due to a choice that we would make, it can help to give us the confidence to say No.

    Walk Away

Sometimes the easiest thing to do is walk away from the situation. It is easier if others join you, but don’t let this stop you if they don’t.

    Use Your Helping Hand

Think about the people you could tell. They will be able to help you make the right decision, or open up a safe space for you to relay your concerns with your friends.

Thames Valley Police and the Police and Crime Commissioner have announced that the National Monument Against Violence and Aggression, known as the Knife Angel will be coming to Milton Keynes at the end of the year as part of a month of action against violent crime this December. Based at the Stadium MK the monument was created by the British Ironwork Centre and designed by sculptor Alfie Bradley, made of over 100,000 knives. The knives were collected through a nationwide knife amnesty supported by police forces across the country and the Home Office. The monument was created to highlight the impact of knife crime on people, families and communities.

Opportunities For Open Communications About The Choices And Consequences Of Knife Crime

The Knife Angel provides an opportunity for the people of Milton Keynes, and the city’s visitors from further afield to talk about knife crime and knives, why people carry them and the life changing impact they can have. The Safety Centre Charity, the world’s first safety education charity was created to teach children, young people and adults how to stay safe in daily life. The charity’s pioneering education programme has developed as the risks we face in daily life have evolved. Visits to their education centre Hazard Alley now include early intervention knife crime education as well as early intervention knife crime outreach sessions in schools across the region. The centre which is Learning Outside the Classroom certified, has an exceptional education team who are trained to talk about knife crime and the choices and consequences of carrying weapons in a safe, age appropriate way. The education team is looking forward to sharing their expertise during the month of action this December.

    Pioneering Safety Education

Sarah Surridge, Marketing and Communications Manager at the Safety Centre Charity said

‘As the world’s first safety education charity the Safety Centre are pioneers in safety education, including knife crime. As we adapt to the changing world we live in we’ve introduced early intervention knife crime education for all our year 5 and 6 visitors to our education centre in Kiln Farm Milton Keynes. This is in addition to our outreach programmes in schools delivering knife crime education to school students, talking about the choices young people have and the consequences of their choices, which are potentially far reaching and life changing. The Safety Centre is excited to be part of this important education opportunity with the Knife Angel coming to Milton Keynes and will be creating safe spaces for potentially life saving conversations about knife crime and it’s consequences. We look forward to working with Thames Valley Police, MK Council and MK Dons SET to deliver this vital education.’
